The Ultra Relay is an epic, 21-segment, staged relay run stretching 3,260 miles across America to raise awareness and funds for MS.

Every year we run across America and rally thousands in support to help STOP multiple sclerosis (MS)! This is our story and why we run for a reason.

Read on to learn more about the Ultra Relay, what to expect as a participant, and the commitment involved. In 2027, you have a couple of options for how you want to take on the miles.

Choose the On-Course Relay Run or Virtual Relay Run, and take on the miles solo, with a partner, or as part of a team.

Step 1: The Application

Are you a runner looking for more? Are you interested in exploring what you’re capable of?

Then you’ve come to the right place. Whether you want to take on the miles along the cross-country route or from your home state, we’re looking for runners ready to challenge themselves while raising awareness and funds for MS. If that sounds like you, submit an application!

Step 2: The Fundraising

Your fundraising commitment starts at $10,000.

We know—that’s a big goal. But don’t let the fundraising commitment stop you from applying. Each year, we hear success stories from runners who weren’t sure they could reach it—and then watched their communities rally behind them. We also hear from the people impacted by the funds raised and see the difference those dollars make.

The fundraising goal is a big part of what makes the Ultra Relay possible. We’ll give you the tools, resources, and support to help you get there.

Step 3: The Training

We know not everyone interested has experience running 160 miles in one week—and we wouldn’t expect you to! So we’ve got you covered.

MS Run the US provides a training program, nutritional guidance, and support from a group of running experts within our organization and community—including our Founder Ashley Schneider, who ran solo across America, and our many alumni runners who love to help others take on this experience.

You bring the commitment. We’ll help you prepare for the miles.

Step 4: Take on Your Miles

Once you’re selected, it’s time to put all that training to work! Here’s what to expect when you take on your Ultra Relay miles:

On-Course Relay Run

• You’ll be assigned a segment during team selection based on your preferences and availability. We’ll share where and when you’ll be running so you can plan ahead.
• During your segment, you’ll be supported by our Road Crew, who are there to keep you fueled, supported, and moving throughout your six days.
• Our RV serves as your home base, sleeping quarters, kitchen, and central hub for the week. Think of it as running camp for adults—with a generous helping of inspiration and purpose.
• For safety and to preserve the relay experience, runners must complete their assigned miles according to the established segment schedule.

Virtual Relay Run

• You’ll complete your Ultra Relay miles from your home state during your assigned week.
• You’ll have the training, fundraising, and community support you need to take on your miles and share your experience with us along the way.

On-Course Relay Runners also receive: RV accommodations, travel support, and an on-site Road Crew throughout your segment.
